Antigua, Guatemala

Trip Highlights

  • Volcán Pacaya

If hiking is at all a enjoyable to you, I highly recommend doing a hike of one of the many volcanoes surrounding Antigua. We wanted to hike Volcán Pacaya because it is an easy day trip from the city and a ~4mi hike with around 2000ft of elevation. At the top, you have views of all of the surrounding volcanoes, can roast marshmallows from the heat of the volcanic rocks and enjoy a picnic lunch!

  • Walking Tour

One of the best things about Antigua is how walkable it is! The city is very quaint, with cobblestone streets and tons of cute gardens you can pop into from the street. I highly recommend spending an afternoon exploring the city, enjoying an espresso from one of the cafés and doing some shopping

  • Lake Atitlán

Lake Atitlán is about a 3hr drive from Antigua but was one of my favorite parts about the trip! We stayed ~3 days in Panajachel, the biggest town by the lake. Enjoy a few days of serenity, as the lake is quite quiet and offers stunning views!

  • Casa Santo Domingo

Casa Santo Domingo is a beautiful property in Antigua. We did not stay here, though I highly recommend it! We were here two days during the trip, one for a wedding which was hosted at the hotel and another for a pool day. The hotel’s grounds are stunning, filled with historical buildings, natural beauty and, of course, a nice swimming pool

  • Santa Catalina Arch

On your walking tour of Antigua, you should come across the iconic arch in Antigua. Lots of cute shops are around here selling items and wonderful restaurants as well! Definitely a must see place if you are visiting Antigua!

Where to Eat

  • Por Qué No? Café

We LOVED Por Qué No? Café. We chatted with the owner who moved from Turkey to Antigua and wanted to replicate his coffee from home. We had a delicious espresso after dinner. Highly recommend trying if you are willing to go outside of your coffee comfort zone (it is very strong)

  • Las Antorchas

Highly recommend going to Las Antorchas - it was a repeat location for both lunch and dinner. Very good Italian food and reasonable prices. Additionally, the patio is gorgeous and perfect for a warm day :)

  • Tartines

Tartines was probably the BEST food that I had during my stay. I ordered seared ahi tuna with rice and peas, which was DELICIOUS. The best part of this restaurant is the patio, which has a stunning view of historic architecture. Perfect for a late lunch or a dinner. The drinks are also very good!

  • Bistrot Saúl

Bistrot Saúl was a little café right next to our hotel, the Good Hotel, and it was a lovely little breakfast spot. There were hints of Californian breakfasts mixed with traditional Guatemalan food. The smoothies are were also delicious and a great snack to go!
