Amsterdam, Netherlands

Trip Highlights

  • Tulip Fields

If you so happen to find yourself in Amsterdam during the springtime, ideally mid-April through early-May, I highly recommend going to a tulip field, which are within 30min - 1hr of the city center! This has been on my bucket list for the LONGEST time and it truly did not disappoint. You see fields of tulips of all different colors in bloom - magical!

  • Rijksmuseum

The Rijksmuseum is arguably my favorite museum that I have ever been too. You can easily fill an entire morning, as there are floors of exhibits. My personal favorite was a special collection with models of the Dutch East Indies ships and china, as it was very unique. I am already dying to return to this spot!

  • Van Gogh Museum

It goes without saying that all the museums in Amsterdam are incredible. The Van Gogh museum is unique from any I had ever been to, as it only focuses on one artist and is the largest collection of Van Gogh paintings that can be found in the world! You get to walk through three different floors of Van Gogh art, starting with sketches and ending with some of his most famous work. It was truly spectacular and unlike anything else I’ve ever seen

  • Canal Cruise

A trip to Amsterdam wouldn't be complete without a canal cruise. Canal cruises run almost every hour with a local guide to point out historical landmarks! Wine and appetizers are included :)

  • Jordaan District

Enjoy a leisurely walk through the Jordaan District, with lots of opportunities for window shopping. Many boutique art galleries can be found as well, many filled with modern art. Definitely come with the expectation to wander a while, as there is so much to see!

  • Rijksmuseum Gardens

The Rijksmuseum gardens are free to visit and are stunning. A great place for a picnic with friends or family after going to the Rijksmuseum. My boyfriend and I only had time to walk through, but when I come back to Amsterdam having a picnic here is high up on my list to do!

Food & Drinks

  • Original Pancake

You cannot leave Amsterdam without stopping in one of their numerous pancake restaurants. This large fruit pancake satisfied all of my sweet breakfast cravings. Savory options exist as well!

  • Brouwerij 't IJ

Enjoy beer with friends on a lovely weekend morning at Brouwerji ‘t IJ, though be prepared for it to be crowded. Lots of locals can be found here on the weekends, enjoying organic blond and dark beers. It is also located by the water and next to a historic Holland windmill!

  • Bakers & Roasters

This was my FAVORITE meal of the entire trip. Perfect for a morning before heading off to one of the museums. We ordered their full breakfast, though the breakfast burrito looked incredible as well

  • Greenwoods Keizersgracht

Another great brunch! Expect a bit of a wait if you go on the weekends but it is worth it! Outside seating provides a wonderful view of a canal and the food was so tasty! The pancakes were my favorite part of the meal :)
